  • Beschreibung: 1868, in the plains of Thessaly. Thanasis Vardas is a fine upstanding man who is pursued by a gang of Turkish Albanians and is forced to abandon his five-year-old son Giorgis in a monastery in Meteora. Fifteen years later, when Thessaly is liberated and integrated into the Greek state, Giorgis, a grown-up now, leaves the monastery. He throws off his robe and becomes engaged to the daughter of a fellow-villager. The Turk-Albanians, however, lie in wait because they have designs on his medallion, on which the location of Ali Pasha’s hidden treasure is engraved. With the help of a “stranger” (who is really his father and hadn’t died as everyone thought), he eliminates them all.
